With the start of a new year, one of the most common types of resolutions is to lose weight.You need to have weight loss motivation Although people can feel very motivated at the start of a new year. It can be very hard to keep that motivation up over the next 12 months. If you start off on the right foot, then you will be much more likely to succeed.

What Motivates you?

The first thing you will want to do is define your weight loss motivation. It is very important to have the right attitude when you start off. To do this, you need to understand that losing weight is a multi-process thing. You will have to cut calories, exercise and get yourself in the right mentality. Without the right mentality, it can be very hard to be successful in losing weight long term.

Self-defeating thoughts are many times the thing that gets people off the track of wanting to live a healthier lifestyle and lose weight. Start by listing all of the reasons that you want to lose weight.

Once you have that list made, put a start next to all of the reasons that involve other people. Then you should highlight words that use phrases like “must”, “should”, or “have to”. These kinds of words mean that the goal is more of an obligation to you, not a personal desire. It is important to acknowledge the reasons you want to lose weight that is not your own because those are the reasons that will cause you to fail

Next, you will want to choose a goal that is attainable. Many times, people will make goals for themselves that cannot be reached through a healthy amount of dieting and exercising. Often times these unrealistic goals will cause someone to feel defeated and give up their effort to lose weight altogether. Setting a goal to lose about 10 percent of your current weight within 5 months is something that is obtainable, but will also provide you with helpful results.

Eating and Exercise

Next, you will want to figure out a new eating and exercising plan. Many people decide to follow a diet and exercise plan that others have already made (this is where dieting fads come in). Unless this plan is personalized for your specific situation, they can be hard to keep up with a may cause you to lose your motivation. Go see a nutritionist so that you can find out what your dietary needs are, and then try to find some ways of exercising that are both fun and challenging for yourself.

Celebrate!

Finally, make sure you celebrate every achievement. Did you walk an extra mile? Buy yourself some new exercise gadgets that you’ve had your eye on. Did you reach your 5-month weight loss goal? Then go get yourself some new clothes. Even the really small achievements are important to celebrate. Were you especially tempted by some unhealthy food today, but had the self-control to say no? Rent your favourite movie or by a new book. By celebrating every achievement, you will keep your motivation up throughout the entire year.
