Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith has been having an excellent year. But against the Detroit Lions, we saw what was perhaps the biggest fear for Smith as he went to the turf in obvious pain. On a non-contact play, Smith appeared to injure his leg and was confirmed by the team as an Achilles injury.
If anyone knows an Achilles tear, it’s former Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith Sr., who suffered one in 2015. Smith sent some love and motivation out to Baltimore’s cornerback via Twitter.
Smith Sr. came back the next season to a decent season, catching 70 passes for 799 yards and five touchdowns. So when he says Smith will “be good,” he really does know what he’s talking about.
Still, it’s undoubtedly tough for Smith who was having an All-Pro-caliber season prior to his injury. Though there is no timetable for a return for Smith, it’s expected that Smith will be done for the season and head to injured reserve. Hopefully, if that’s the case, he can begin rehabilitating it quickly and get back to form early next season.
