Motivation tools: Performance bonuses
Rewards are a great way to motivate ourselves to stick to our goals.
With weight loss the real reward is the ‘after picture’ where you are more confident, more healthy and more self-assured because of your achievement.
However this main goal may take a while to achieve, so what you need are a couple of smaller goals along the way. At these checkpoints you can set ‘rewards’ that will keep you motivated in the long term so that you stay on track.

Don’t use food as a reward!
One of the dangers of rewards is that a lot of dieters use food to reward themselves for losing weight. While this CAN work if you’re really disciplined it can also create a strange dynamic where food becomes more of an obsession than ever because you begin living for your ‘reward meal’.
What to do instead:
A better strategy may be to link the reward to an experience like a weekend away, a day out with a friend, a new outfit for your new body, or eating in a restaurant you’ve never been to before so that the EXPERIENCE is the reward, not the food.
The important thing here is that the reward needs to be motivating, so that you can use it for motivation, but it shouldn’t be something that can take you off track, like a pig-out eating weekend.
Be sensible, but reward yourself for good work. You deserve it.
