As we enjoy the spring weather, here at FoodFacts.com we also can’t help daydreaming about those hot and sunny summer days that will be here before we know it. The anticipation of going on vacation, traveling to our favorite beaches or campsites and attending countless barbecues make us all eager for the first day of summer, June 21st, to arrive… There’s just one little thing we dread year after year: wearing summer clothes.

Not Feeling Ready To Wear Swimsuits & Summer Clothes

For many of us, wearing tank tops and shorts is just as intimate as wearing beach wear. You want to dress lighter for the hot weather, but you feel more exposed and get mad at yourself for not being more committed to exercising and eating healthier in the previous months. As a result, your confidence to wear summer clothes drops and you’re left asking: Do I still have enough time to be ready for summer?

The answer is yes! At FoodFacts.com, we like to follow a few simple guidelines to get us ready for summer so that we can feel more confident to wear all of our summer attire.

Scan & Log Your Food in Our App Daily

Begin with breakfast and log everything you eat and drink in our FoodFacts app food diary. Examine the ingredients in each item you enter and decide whether it’s helping to nourish your body or just setting you back. Your daily sugar intake (for instance), has a direct effect on your body gaining weight. Once you see how much you are consuming each day, you begin to know what to cut out of your diet. You should also eliminate the foods that are filled with controversial ingredients, like added colors or flavors and anything that is flagged as an allergen or ailment for you.  You’ll probably be amazed at how many ingredients make up just one processed food, which is a great eye-opener to make you not want to eat those foods again.  Make it your goal to cut down on sugar and simply eat and drink foods that contain as few ingredients as possible and that will score well on our rating system (aim for a C+ and up).

Get Some Light Exercise Outdoors

As we always say, you can’t exercise your way out of a bad diet, but it would be a shame to not take advantage of these beautiful spring days by getting some light exercise outdoors a few times a week. Take your dog for a daily walk when you get home from work to stretch your legs and his. Visit your local park and explore the various hiking trails. Go on a family bike ride after dinner. You don’t have to go to the gym to be active, there’s plenty of things to do outside.

Think Positive & Gain A Better Body Image

Last and most importantly, stop criticizing your body, putting yourself down and feeling overall negative about your body image. It’s not healthy and it’s certainly not helping you to achieve the number on the scale you desire. Instead, remember that every body is beautiful and having a positive body image goes such a long way towards making you mentally and physically happier. So the next time you look in the mirror, tell yourself all of the things you love about your body because you’re a person who deserves to feel great about their body every single day.

Revamp Yourself & Your Diet Today

When you don’t feel good or confident about how you look, it can be the only thing that holds you back from fully enjoying the summertime. Don’t waste any more time worrying about wearing summer clothes and swimsuits this summer. Instead, focus on logging your food daily, getting some light exercise a few times a week and keeping an overall positive body image. You can do this!
