Jason Witten has experienced a lot of firsts in the NFL, but it’s taken him 15 years to add this bizarre “feat” to his resume. For the first time he can remember, Witten is actually older than the coach of the team he’ll be facing on Sunday.

Sean McVay is just 31 years old, the youngest head coach in the NFL. Witten, on the other hand, is 35 and still running hitch routes with the best of them.

“It’s something. I don’t know that I’ve ever played against a team that I’m older than the coach,” Witten said, via the Dallas Morning News. “Maybe that’s a sign.”

Despite being older than McVay, Witten doesn’t get find that to be a negative. It’s the only head coach he’s older than, but he’s certainly not the only player who’s surpassed McVay in age. And he doesn’t find that to be a negative.

Witten views this random factoid as motivation.

“A sign to just keep on going, brother,” Witten said. “A sign to just keep on going. In the preseason game [against the Rams] I saw Andrew Whitworth who I’ve known over the years, a left tackle, we’re similar in age, and I made a comment, ‘How is it being older than your coach?’ He said he owns it. That’s a great personality to have. Whit is one of the better left tackles in football. You know, age is just a number. It’s all about production and play.”

Witten and the Cowboys are looking to grab their third win of the season, just as the Rams are. Being six-point favorites, Dallas is expected to do so, according to Vegas. However, this isn’t the same Rams team that struggled to hang with the NFL’s best for the past few years. These Rams can beat anyone, largely thanks to their first-year head coach.
